Citadella

Citadel is a word with Italian origin. The meaning is fortress or upper castle.

Most of the fortresses are built to protect areas but this has exactrly the oposit function! The guns and loopholes that face the city center of Pest side were designed to frighten and keep under control the Hungarian citizens! Was built after the revolution against Austria in 1838 by the order of Emperor Franz Josef.

Today it has only peacefull purposes and luring terraces from where you can enjoy the best panoramic view of the city!
